Early Life:
· Jamaal was born in Quanah, Texas and grew up in Richmond, Va.
· Joined the United States Air Force in 1999.
Air Force Service and Air Traffic Control Career:
· Air traffic controller for six years at Scott AFB, Ill., Dover AFB, Del., and supported Operation Enduring Freedom at Al Dhafra AFB, United Arab Emirates.
· Reached the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged in May of 2005.
· Worked in Federal Contract Towers represented by NATCA in Groton, Conn., at Groton-New London Air Traffic Control Tower, and then in Baltimore County, Md., at Martin State Air Traffic Control Tower.
· Hired by the Federal Aviation Administration in 2007 and assigned to Las Vegas TRACON. In 2009, Jamaal transferred to and became a Certified Professional Controller at Tamiami Air Traffic Control Tower in Miami, Fla.
· Transferred to Las Vegas Harry Reid Air Traffic Control Tower in 2010.
NATCA Leadership:
· Las Vegas Harry Reid Air Traffic Control Tower
o Served as Local Secretary and then as President and Principal Facility Representative for four terms.
· Served as a national NATCA representative on training and safety issues since 2011.
· One of two original Leads for the initial national development of Recurrent Training.
· Served on several National Collaborative Workgroups, including the National Training Initiative and the OJT Resumption Plan.
· Part of and signatory to several impactful MOUs, and also served on NATCA’s National Contract Team, negotiating the groundbreaking 2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Personal Life:
· Has lived in 10 different states and more than 15 different municipalities.
· Grew up the youngest of three siblings, with two older sisters. Later in life, he lost his youngest child status and became a big brother to two more siblings.
· Currently resides in Washington, D.C., with his 20-year-old daughter Jayla.
· He enjoys the ventures of fatherhood in the city! Jamaal’s hobbies include watching sports, working out, and reading.
Team NDJH - The Path Forward:
· Running for NATCA Executive Vice President alongside Nick, with a vision to lead by example and set the bar of expectations for the representation provided to our members by elected and appointed local, regional, and national representatives.
· Increase transparency and member education through membership engagement forums and in person visits.
· Ensure that NATCA’s member rights are protected and grown through both collaboration and negotiations.
· Work tirelessly to connect with all members, from every facility type and level, from all walks of life, in order to bring a sense of belonging and dedication to the world’s strongest aviation labor Union.
